[00:00:00]DariusIt's like the whole like wash the thing. Like it was in the beginning, antisocial. Like I like to stay in the house or, I, I'm getting older, I'm washed. And then it just like, suddenly I just saw someone one day was like, after 30 plus, don't ask me to come out after 7:00. And I was like, I know, bro, come on, man.
[00:00:19]JordanWhat the hell are you doing on the weekends?
[00:00:20]DariusCome on, dude. I ain't that watch. I'm not ready for the nursing home. Like I'm not.
[00:00:25]JordanThere's a, yeah, there's a very, very thick line between being an old in the club and being prematurely watched or whatever you want to call yourself.
[00:00:35]DariusYeah, like, am I out till 3:00 in the clubs anymore? No, but I'm not ready for bingo night either. Like, it's like, welcome to Out the Trunk with Jordan and Darius. My name is Darius. That's these all up in your area on all socials.
[00:00:46]JordanAnd I'm Jordan. That's Jordan B. writing on all socials.
[00:00:49]DariusThis is our what's on our mind segment where we where we where we like to let you guys know what's on our mind, what we've seen on the Internet, pop culture, different things like that. It's kind of like an open forum to discuss what we found interesting. And I want to start with what's going to be an extremely unpopular opinion position. All right. Just about I might be 1% of people on Earth who hold this position. I am happy that Blade blew up in Mashallah Ali's face because in a just world, an actor as talented as him choosing to do Marvel slop should be punished. And I'm so happy that the good guys won this time. Sometimes the bad guys lose. I'm glad it ruined his, I'm glad it derailed his career and he should be punished for that terrible decision.
[00:01:35]JordanThat's crazy.
[00:01:37]DariusIt makes me so, in interviews and he's like, they ****** it up. And I was like, oh my, I'm so, I hope the next person sees this and reconsiders. I get it. just, I just, I feel it just fills me with such happiness to see the bad guys lose sometimes.
[00:01:53]JordanAnd when you say the bad guys, you mean like Marvel or actors?
[00:01:59]DariusEveryone, well, Marvel's going to do what they want to do. But talented actors and actresses who choose to do that slop for money, they should be punished constantly. I love it. I hope he never gets another money.
[00:02:15]JordanYeah, no, I definitely disagree for sure. I like seeing black people.
[00:02:19]DariusI said it being popular. It's not just a black thing like that lady who did obsession.
[00:02:24]JordanI hope it blows up in her face that she chose Marvel stuff. I think it was somebody said that actually was not true. She didn't actually turn down a role in Heat, number one. Number 2, when has Michael Mann been known for writing great women characters? Like, can we, like, let's stop. Number one, point #2. Point #3, after she shot Obsession, she didn't work for like a year and a half. These bills got to get paid, bro. And she got severely underpaid for Obsession. So like, get in the bag, I'm not mad at people doing that. Again, that's where the phrase, one for me, one for you comes from. Like, I'm gonna do one blockbuster, get the bag, get my money right. And then I can Robert Pattinson the rest of my career. You feel me? So I think there's a place for both. I get what you're saying. Cause like, you know, if we lost him for a decade doing a vampire, that would not have been great for art. But I mean, he's still doing great movies. So it's not a real.
[00:03:17]DariusOne for me, one for you doesn't works in theory, never in practice. Where's Winston Duke? Where's Lupita? Marvel just swallows up careers, man. It's not really doesn't really work that way.
[00:03:28]JordanI mean, do you know for a fact they have like a non-compete clause or that they can't they're not able to do other things?
[00:03:34]DariusNo, but anecdotally, I know when people choose to enter that universe, they stop doing other stuff. So it's like, it can't all, I mean, clearly Marvel's the only common denominator. And no, I'm being a bit over the top. I understand structural forces. Yeah, I understand there are structural forces that make them make the decision that they make. But I'm just glad, like for someone who loves movies and hates Marvel movies and thinks they're all terrible, I'm glad to see it fail one time. Like, sorry it had to be him, but I just hope the next person is like, do I really want to tie up for the next five years? And he just maybe it's just let it be a cautionary tale. It just felt good to see a win for cinema like this.
[00:04:22]JordanI mean, I hear you. But like, I can play Wolverine. He's he did a he did prisoners. He did lay mitts. He did amazing ****. Halle Berry won an Oscar around the same time she was playing Storm. There are you know, it's not it's not necessarily an either or.
[00:04:36]DariusYou named 3 movies Hugh Jackman did outside of the 30 years he was Wolverine. Yes, that's your example of a one for me, one for you.
[00:04:48]JordanHow many, how many songs do you play Wolverine? Okay, he did a lot. He did a lot. But it's been, yeah, it's been like 25 years, yeah.
[00:04:53]DariusYou got the Prestige, we got Prisoners, and we got- Yeah, Prestige, Prisoners, Les Mis. I would just like to say, since he stopped playing Wolverine, he's been a lot of different ****. He did. He just did the movie where he was voice acting the animals. He just did Sing Song Blue. Yeah, I just refused. Happy Feet. Happy Feet. It just it can't be a coincidence that he disappeared.
[00:05:15]JordanI mean, I hear you. I get your point. I'm not mad at that take. I mean, I do wonder what roles the Marvel, the Avengers passed down or had to pass on because, they're scheduling and stuff like that. I mean, I wouldn't really know, I guess, but that would be cool to see.
[00:05:38]DariusWell, it's hard. Yeah, it's impossible to prove a negative, but it's not just the time that you shoot the movie. It's the reshoots that Marvel demands. It's the press that they demands. And then just like the insane shape you have to stay in. Which means, which it's just, All these careers just get swallowed up. And look, I get it. Again, I've said it on another pod, the nerds won, but this time I get to win and I'm happy about it. So we can move on to the next one, man. What are you watching these days, man? Let's let the people catch up with what we're into.
[00:06:19]JordanRight now, I've really just been rewatching stuff for the most part. I've been rewatching Once Upon A Time. I'm on season 4 right now. Premise of the show is basically every character across like pretty much literature and fairy tales and Disney movies are in this enchanted realm. But because the Evil Queen has beef with like an eternal beef with Snow White, she's like, all right, I'm gonna get it back in blood. So she curses them, sends them into our world in this town called Storybrook and wink wink. where everyone there has forgotten who they are. So like they're all just like regular people. So for example, like Geppetto is like a carpenter, Snow White's like a school teacher, I'm trying to think, trying to think. Pinocchio is like a traveling like nomad, who just does crazy **** you know what I'm saying? So it's pretty dope. Every season there's either a new curse or a curse that's broken and there's like a new villain and there's a lot of great backstory. the heroes do villainous **** the villains do heroic ****. There's a lot of anti-heroes. It's really, really cool. It's great like character study on like human nature, which is pretty dope. So I've been watching that pretty much every night for the last couple weeks. What else have I been watching? I'm trying to think. It's really doing that. Football came back like a week and a half ago. So That's been every weekend.
[00:07:36]DariusYeah. And it's like NBA is coming back soon. So it's going to be. I haven't. Yeah, it's just because it's like football Thursday, Friday. I'm not. I usually if I go out, I go out. But if I'm home, I'm probably like playing video games on Friday. And then Saturday football, Sunday football. Monday, I have to prepare for the pod and watch a game. Tuesday, we pod. It's like Wednesday is really the only day. that I can just like have turn my TV on and not have something that I have to do with it, you know?
[00:08:11]JordanYeah, same.
[00:08:12]DariusBut I quit Snowfall after season four.
[00:08:17]JordanI did see tweet that,
[00:08:19]Dariusyou know, it's just, you know, it just stopped being interesting to me. And I just want to know one of my like new things is just like,
[00:08:30]JordanStopping **** you don't want to do.
[00:08:32]DariusYou can just quit like you can just do things like if a show sucks, people act like they're just obligated to keep going. And it's just like, you know, I'm here to let people know that you can use your free will and just like I just I finished season four and when it was like the actual core group broke up and then what really threw me off was when Leon Spoiler alert, he does that drive by and the little girl gets killed and like 2 episodes later, it's just fixed. And I was like, all right.
[00:09:01]JordanYeah, it's like, there's a lot of continuity issues in the later seasons.
[00:09:08]DariusHe's like, we're just going to make the other guy take the fall for it and then he's going to die. And I guess the cops just quit. Like, it's not. Right, because you know how it works. It just got to be too much. And so I stopped watching that. I did watch. I recently watched Tyler Perry's new. Why did I get married movie?
[00:09:27]JordanAnd I heard bad things.
[00:09:30]DariusIt's, you know, his movies were never like Oscar worthy cinema, but they were just like regular bad. And now he's just, he's just playing on our phone. Like he's ************ now. He's just playing in your face. Yeah. It's just like, you're not trying. It's just I like the first two. They're good, bad movies, but it's just I, I've always made the case that like, white people get their Adam Sandler, like he's not pumping out great, it's like Tyler Perry does soap opera lifetime esque movies. And so there's a space for that for black content as well. But like, he's just not trying anymore. No, I think I saw they shot it in like a week. Yeah. And it's like in three different locations and it's just. If you because I recently watched the first one, went out, got home a little early. It was like 11 o'clock. Let me just watch this movie Tired. And it was like an hour and a half. And I watched the first one watching the first one and then going to the third one. There is a notable drop in like technical like craft and quality. Yeah, just quality. Like the cameras are better because technology has gotten better, but just like the way he edits it and like the way he shoots scenes and it's just. They it just it feels like he's just releasing first drafts and now and I don't want your rough draft. But that's really it man. Just Adam sports. So you got anything else you're watching?
[00:10:57]JordanYeah, that's pretty much it. I've just been rewatching that. If I'm watching, I pretty much only watch live TV when I'm watching sports. So if I'm watching sports and I like to have **** I hate commercials. So I'll find a movie or some **** to watch in between and I'll flip back and forth. So I'm usually watching like FX. They show a lot of movies I've seen on repeat. So like a lot of Marvel stuff or action movies, whatever, so on and so forth. So I'll usually flip back and forth between those two channels. Other than that, I haven't really been watching a lot of stuff other than movies for the pod. Because like you said, it's like Sunday football, Monday football, and I'm watching the movie for the pod. Tuesday recording, I may watch the movie again. Wednesday's like my off day.
[00:11:39]DariusI don't want to watch the movie on Wednesday.
[00:11:43]JordanAnd then Thursday's football, Friday, chill, I'm outside. Saturday, I'm usually outside too. So.
[00:11:49]DariusYeah, it's the schedule gets a little packed. I like it though. But definitely, you definitely can feel myself watching a lot less. Well, I'm watching more TV because I'm watching sports, but like I'm not watching TV, if that makes sense. Like my TV is on more. But you know, like during the summer, I might, I mean, I watch most of Snowfall. I rewatched. The hell did I rewatch? I watched one of those iconic shows over the summer. It all runs together once you watch them all 5 plus times. So 3 times gobbled up, man. You ready to get into your first topic?
[00:12:26]JordanYeah. Speaking of the show, I was referencing Once Upon a Time. There's a character in the show, I'm still seeing he's like one of the bigger villains slash anti-heroes character arcs in the show. And there's a conversation he has with someone where he does some really ****** ** **** and they're like, I thought you changed. Like, what the hell? And he's like, more like evolved. And so I thought it was a kind of a funny like rebrand slash like philosophy in terms of like change versus evolution. Is one is one better than the other? Is one bad? Is one good? Let's get your your initial thoughts on that. I have a couple questions, follow up questions as well.
[00:13:02]DariusI think it's like it's like Every rectangle can be a square, or is it the other way around?
[00:13:13]JordanOr a square is a rectangle, but it's not a square.
[00:13:15]DariusRight. So it's like all evolution has changed, but that all change is evolution. And so it's kind of like this, which squared rectangle, the people know the saying. I just don't know it off the top of my head. So there is a difference, but all evolution is by definition some sort of change. But you know, Yes, there is a difference between the two. Evolution can be both good and bad, but sometimes change isn't responding to any sort of external stimulus. You're just changing something up to keep things fresh. And that's not necessarily evolution. How about you? What do you think?
[00:13:58]JordanYeah, I do think there's a difference. I think generally I'd say changes can be worse, quote unquote, than evolution. I think evolution has its pros and cons as well. I think about it like change is just something, obviously, something is different, right? So different doesn't always mean better. I think about it like, for example, today, society, last 20 years, we've seen, we use the phrase, everyone's so sensitive now. And so because everyone became so sensitive or got branded as being sensitive, we kind of overcorrected into just overt political incorrectness and just lack of planners and consideration for other people. And, you know, in somewhere between that is the cancel culture conversation. Right. And but it's also like, you know, do we need to do we need to make everything so drastic just because we feel like we learned our lesson? You know what I'm saying? And like, for example, I think about like the Dark Knight, right? Like he was talking, he's talking to Alfred and he's like, well, you know, you pushed them up to the point of desperation. So they went to someone they didn't understand. That's kind of like, you know, the Batman created the Joker unknowingly because he was so good and put fear into evil. So evil went to someone that they thought he would fear. You get what I'm saying? It's like, so there is a push and pull there.
[00:15:20]DariusYeah, it's just we have a society has a problem with always solving the last problem and not actually getting out in front of the next one. And so it's like, you know, like I was there for I mean, we all we all were was there for like woke one, what they call it. And look, there were some excesses like there were.
[00:15:42]JordanYeah, for sure. Like, as he's on sorry, bro, like his squid never recovered.
[00:15:47]DariusAnd it's just like just like things like remember the lady who tweeted is famous. She was just tweeting like one of her favorite things to do in the morning is have coffee with her husband on the porch. And people were like telling her to check her white privilege. Oh yeah. It was like, hey guys, I don't know about that one.
[00:16:06]JordanSome of us don't have a ******* porch.
[00:16:10]DariusMy single mom working three jobs and they have time in the morning. It was like, whoa, everybody.
[00:16:15]JordanIt's like, I think she just was happy about her marriage. I think she's just in love with her husband, man. I think that's kind of okay.
[00:16:21]DariusYeah, it's just like, that was, it's just one of those things where it's like, all right now y'all y'all
[00:16:26]Jordanlike you dragged it bro like come on man it's like uh that's one of my favorite this whole like it's like this whole speaking of coffee it's like there's that thing where now all of a sudden people are upset that it's considered like uncool to bring an iced coffee into a job interview I'm like you might as well walk in there with your barefoot with socks on or just like with a sub eating because is that your couch yeah it's crazy
[00:16:53]DariusYou should the job interview shouldn't feel and look like one of the errands you're running that day. Like it's not.
[00:16:57]JordanNo, it shouldn't feel like you're content creating and you're pulling up with a macho.
[00:17:02]DariusYeah, it's just like you said, it's an overcorrection. It's like, you know, jobs used to make you have like your hair a certain way and like, or just like respectability politics. It became like, you know, you shouldn't have to have certain hairstyles too. You shouldn't have to follow any rules of decorum. And it's like, no, like that's.
[00:17:22]Jordanlike the hairstyle policing was wrong and that was bad.
[00:17:26]DariusBut then it's just like it became, anytime a white person asks me what I did over this weekend, that's like an invasive question. And it's like,
[00:17:35]JordanI think they're just making conversation.
[00:17:38]DariusIt's also just like no one's asking you to tell them about like your wild night to strip club. Just be like, oh, I did some things around the house and me and the fellas got up and watched the game. Like that's all you have to do.
[00:17:47]JordanYou can lie. Like you don't actually have to tell them what you literally did if you did some crazy **** that weekend.
[00:17:51]DariusYeah, it's just like, dude, it's just crazy conversation. You have to spend a lot of time around these people and it's just gonna be better if everyone's pleasant about it. Like I don't.
[00:18:01]JordanI commented on the TikTok about the iced coffee thing, and I was like, an interview is a vibe check. That's literally all it is. It's not about seeing if you can do the job. They called you in for the interview because they think you can do the job. They just want to see if you're an ******* or not, basically. I remember I was in an Uber one time on the way to a job interview, and the guy Ubering, he was like, I used to be a hiring manager. I can give you some really good tips and just give you some advice, whatever. And he was like, they're looking for a reason not to hire you when they have you been for a job interview. Like, he basically just like, don't do or say anything stupid. Don't be rude. And you know, you're going to be good. And he actually was really cool. We went over like the star responses and stuff like that. We like practiced the whole time on the way to the job, which is pretty dope. When I back pre pre car in my pre car days.
[00:18:49]DariusBut yeah, the it's like there's the thing about most jobs, like unless you have like some super specialized technical skill, like you're a surgeon or you're, you know, some like super duper engineer, like 90% of the people are just like, are like the actual work they complete is replaceable. It's just, are you a dope hang for 8 hours a day? I can you, you know, like we can, like we can teach you the job. You know, we're not exactly, we're not, we're not putting the man on the moon at this place. Like we're just, you know, this isn't nautical engineering. We're just, No, we just need someone who's going to show up on time, do the work that is required and be pleasant to be around. And like, if you're in that room, they know you can do the job. It's just they're trying to figure out the vibes. And truly, when you show up with an iced coffee, it's just like it's it's a it's a sign that you can't you're just is it just yeah, you can't adjust or just like is the iced coffee in and of itself a big deal? No, but it signals that you are Just everything with you is going to be pulling teeth. It's like, hey, can you not, and it's just like, well, according to line 37, I'm done. It's like, all right. It took me more effort to rebut this than to just do what I ask.
[00:20:09]JordanCorrect. Like someone said, they made a great point. They said, in order to get social rewards, meaning the job, you have to conform to social norms, meaning don't bring the iced coffee.
[00:20:17]DariusYeah. It's just like every, the social norm, like it's, there's a saying, it's called a theory of Chesterton's fence. And it's like, don't, if you see a fence in a field and it has, it's not, it's not doing anything, it's just in the field, you still should make sure you understand what that fence is doing before you remove it. And I think a lot of these social norms were like load bearing principles of society that we just kind of remove thinking they didn't do anything. And they actually were holding up a lot of things that.
[00:20:49]JordanThat's a good point.
[00:20:50]DariusIt just don't remove the fence until you know exactly what that fence was put there to do. And, we're seeing this a lot with like gambling. Like when gambling was something that you had to fly to Vegas to do, or you had to go to like your bookie in a seedy dive bar who barely spoke English, That was like healthy friction in society. It was like, there's nothing, we're not, the police aren't actively investigating this or anything. Like making you go to a casino, put on clothes, shower, go down there and sit at a table in public. That was healthy friction. But now that it's in everybody's pocket, we've removed a load. That friction was load bearing.
[00:21:26]JordanYes, we've created a nation of addicts, literally.
[00:21:31]DariusMe and Lewis were at, I'm not going to name the place, watching Ole Miss LSU Saturday. And we were just talking. We're like, every dude around us, it was just a bunch of dudes with college football was sweating bets, like checking their parlays. And then they lie like, oh, I only put $10 on here. You ain't sweating that hard for $10. I'm like, nobody actually cares about what's happening in this game. Everyone's just sweating.
[00:21:56]JordanNo.
[00:21:57]DariusAnd yeah, it's it's different than what it was before. You could gamble on your phone. I've lived. I've been watching football in bars for a long time. Please don't, like, don't tell me this is the same as it always is.
[00:22:09]JordanNo, you're hearing the words line over, under.
[00:22:15]DariusNo one even cares about the actual game. It's like, no, they don't root for this score here and that score here. Like you're rooting for both teams.
[00:22:21]JordanYeah, it's like, it's like, it's kind of like, like the safe version is fantasy football, which I think is totally healthy. But even with that, like when I used to play like. I'd find myself like being like, I hope we win, but I also hope this dude on the side of the ball gets 100 yards receiving. And I'm like, it's kind of a conflict of interest, you know, when it comes to like your love of the game.
[00:22:41]DariusI quit fantasy football for that reason. I found myself like just like rooting for, like you said, conflicting outcomes. And I just.
[00:22:50]JordanYeah.
[00:22:52]DariusI just, it just wasn't fun. And then for that little $50 bet you put in on the 1% chance that you're going to win 500 bucks, like I'd rather just watch football the old way and just cheer for the Vikings to win regardless of how. And just, it's just, I get it. Like what you said, fantasy football though is like a healthy tension. It's a healthy, you know, gamble. But like, When you got people betting on if so-and-so is going to have 4 catches and then it's just, and they're losing, all of you are losing. Everybody I talk to is supposedly a winner. That's not mathematically possible.
[00:23:26]JordanYeah, man, one of my homeboys, Dennis, one of my best friends, he had a parlay and all he needed week one was Richard Mark Chase to hit 50 yards. And he had like 12 yards for the game. And I can't even repeat the words he said in a group chat that day.
[00:23:43]DariusAnd who's his team?
[00:23:46]JordanHe's a Cowboys fan.
[00:23:47]DariusOkay, so I was going to say the Cowboys lost that week, right? But I was hoping that like his team won and I'd like he's not even he doesn't even care because he lost his game.
[00:23:55]JordanNo, he just he had a bad week regardless.
[00:24:00]DariusYeah, I just think, you know, just be when you remove a social norm, understand why that fence was there in the 1st place. That's, you know, it's We're finding out a lot of things like, you know, like, hey, you actually do have to be pleasant to your coworkers. I didn't think we had to say it out loud. Don't bring iced coffee to interviews.
[00:24:21]JordanNo, real **** man. I get tired of this whole like people trying to romanticize being antisocial as like an act of freedom, you know, like a rebellion. And it's like, all right, well, when they fire you, Don't cry. Don't play the cards, you know, like Duke Energy.
[00:24:38]DariusDon't care about none of that. They want their money.
[00:24:39]JordanNo, they don't give a what, none of that ****. They don't give a what, none of that.
[00:24:44]DariusYeah, it's just it's like the whole, like, wash the thing. Like it was in the beginning. Antisocial. Like, I like to stay in the house or, you know, like, you know, I'm getting older, I'm washed. And then it just like, suddenly I just saw someone one day was like, After 30 plus, don't ask me to come out after 7:00. And I was like, all right, no. Bro, come on, man.
[00:25:06]JordanWhat the hell are you doing on the weekends?
[00:25:08]DariusCome on, dude. I ain't that watch. I'm not ready for the nursing home. Like I'm not ill.
[00:25:12]JordanThere's a, yeah, there's a very, very thick line between being an old *** in the club and being prematurely Washed or whatever you want to call yourself.
[00:25:22]DariusYeah. Like, am I out till 3:00 in the clubs anymore? No, but I'm not ready for bingo night either. Like, it's like, it's got to be slipping in between that, you know?
[00:25:30]JordanThere are dive bars, there are lounges, I like house parties.
[00:25:32]DariusIt was like, it was like, man, after 7:00, don't ask a millennial out. And I was like, millennial here, it's fine. Yeah. Is this thing on? I ain't with that one. That one's a little too much.
[00:25:46]JordanYeah, no, because no, what are you doing at 7 P.m.? Like that's just coming.
[00:25:51]DariusUnless you got like one of them jobs or you up at 4 in the morning, you really should not even be like winding. Like it's seven. Is the sun even down during the summer at 7? No, you know, no. Do it a little too much. Yeah. You had some follow up questions for that one you said.
[00:26:12]JordanYeah. So do you know the phrase, the more things change, the more they stay the same?
[00:26:16]DariusYeah.
[00:26:16]JordanDo you agree with that?
[00:26:20]DariusI think to go back to your original point, I think things just whiplash back and forth. And so I think history repeats itself, but I don't think things stay exactly the same. I don't think it's static. History repeats itself. What is it? History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes. And so you kind of, like you said, there's a correction and then an overcorrection and then an overcorrection and an overcorrection. And now we got Pat McAfee smoking weed on TV. You know, it's just...
[00:26:56]JordanThey went from like... We incorporate everyone to, nah, we showed a White House UFC event.
[00:27:06]DariusIt was just like we went from sports being like this super stuffy, super serious thing to like, and maybe we should have loosened that up a bit. And now we got people smoking weed on TV. And I just think that's too far. I agree. I agree. Kids could be watching. You know, this is the middle of the day. People have this stuff on at the dentist office.
[00:27:28]JordanYeah.
[00:27:28]DariusI was smoking Saturday.
[00:27:29]JordanIt's a Saturday. Come on.
[00:27:30]DariusYeah. Like, dude, it's just like, come on, can we be, can we be grownups? You know, like, you know, if you.
[00:27:34]JordanPull a stone, fine, but like, don't.
[00:27:37]DariusWe don't need you like dressed like the Monopoly man, but can we have a little bit? Yeah. Some, rules here. You know, it's just.
[00:27:47]JordanI'm with you on that.
[00:27:50]DariusWhat's your answer to the question on that?
[00:27:54]JordanI'd say I'm more on the agreeing side of that. I think, things shape shift, but they're still at the core. The purpose may be the same. For example, like, is there a difference between a book and a Kindle? No, the form is different. You know, you still have to intake the content. You know, we sought out like for, frying with grease and stuff with an air fryer. Okay, well, you're still using heat to, you know, cook the food. You know, it's like it's just evolution, you know? So in that sense, I do agree.
[00:28:28]DariusI saw a tweet the other day or today. It was like of a mall, a Christmas mall, a mall during Christmas in like the 90s. And of course, it's packed. Yeah, it's a giant tree. And someone captioned it with like, private equity ruined this. And look, I'm not the biggest fan of private equity, but consumers decided they don't want to deal with the mall anymore. And we have technology has made us more efficient and we shop online and they could build that mall tomorrow.
[00:28:55]JordanUnless people die on Black Fridays.
[00:28:56]DariusThey could build that mall tomorrow and yo *** ain't going. I ain't going. You know, like you want them to, who's gonna pay for this empty mall every year so you can see pictures of it? Like it's not, you're not gonna shop there. When's the last time yo *** been to the mall? You know, it's just like, if I go to the mall, it's like a novelty thing. going to the Cheesecake Factory or something for dinner. And I'm like, we walk through the mall. I'm not ever going there.
[00:29:19]JordanChristmas shopping, maybe, something like that.
[00:29:22]DariusYankees got some candles on sale. I don't feel like paying to ship them. Let me just go down to Crabtree.
[00:29:27]JordanI don't know my hat size for like fitted. So I would go to Lid's to measure and do the, you know, whatever.
[00:29:33]DariusYeah, but like it's not like I remember going to the mall was like part of the errand you ran and that's no longer the case. No. So, no, they're not going to keep building malls because no one's going to. Oh, speaking of Kindle versus physical books, my topic here, physical versus digital media, man, according to the RIA, CD and vinyl sales are up 6.9% over this over the same period of time last year. Basically, Every year since COVID, you've seen an increase in physical media sales, basically, especially with regards to like vinyl.
[00:30:13]JordanYeah.
[00:30:14]DariusSo obviously physical media comes with an increased expense, almost 10x over. You have to find places to put these things. It's inconvenient and more expensive to have physical media. So why are people willing to pay that premium price for physical copies, in your opinion?
[00:30:32]JordanI think it's funny you brought up COVID because I didn't realize it was since COVID, but I think that year slash two year period really wrecked everyone's perspective or shifted everyone's perspective. I feel like everything became so much more aware of impermanence that I think people just went back to what they know. Like, you know, it's like you have you date someone new and you don't like them. You might text your ex, hey, what's up? You know, and and so, you know, the world came to an end. You know, everybody was locked in their house streaming things. And then they probably were just like, you know what I miss going out to the store and buying **** you know, I also just think, you know, people like comforting. Those are really scary times, you know, that's another factor too. yeah I
